Police warn that scammers are making calls claiming to be from the IRS

The IRS contacts people through the mail, but even then, police recommend calling the IRS and confirming any allegedly outstanding payments.

Renton Police today through social media warned residents of a new scam that has begun to rear its head in our city.

According to police, they have received several complaints on Thursday from citizens who said a person claiming to be from the IRS calls and threatens a lawsuit. The calls are coming to both landlines and cell phones, reportedly from the number “360-861-5623.”

Police report that the subject on the line says there is has been lawsuit filed against you and/or you are subject to arrest if you do not pay a certain amount of money immediately.

They advise hanging up immediately.
