Salvation Army Renton Rotary Food Bank has gained 82,000 pounds of food so far from The National Association of Letter Carriers’ Annual Food Drive last Saturday.
More than 80 volunteers helped sort the food after it was collected from three Renton post offices.
“It was a great time,” says Renton Salvation Army Capt. Terry Masango. “We enjoyed ourselves. We worked hard and we’re grateful for the support we got.”
The food will help serve the skyrocketing number of families who visit the food bank.
Last March the food bank served about 7,000 families, and this March the food bank served about 13,000.
The food bank at 206 S. Tobin St. is open to all Renton families, regardless of income. The phone number is 425-255-5969.
