The City received multiple reports of a potential utility-bill scam, said communications director Preeti Shridhar.
Someone posing as a city worker has gone door-to-door, requesting money for utility bills, said Renton’s Deputy Police Chief, Tim Troxel.
So far those who have reported the con man haven’t been scammed themselves, he said. “Maybe next month, when people get their bills,” police will hear from victims.
All bills are sent in the mail or paid electronically, Shridhar said. If someone comes to your door asking for Renton utilities payment, call 911.
“We’re just mostly putting this out to people to be on the look out,” Troxel said.
