The Henry Moses Aquatic Center will be receiving needed repairs before the summer season.
On March 10, the city of Renton awarded a bid to DM Pacific LLC for the Henry Moses Aquatic Center Maintenance and Repair Project. The work for the project includes replacing worn pool liners and failing tiles, installing new pumps and motors for better water circulation, and removing the broken splash pad to create a more inviting entry with seating and shade, according to Renton Recreation Director Jennifer Spencer.
“Locker rooms will receive safety and accessibility upgrades, while the concessions building will see improved visibility and functionality,” Spencer said. “HVAC updates will also enhance air quality and comfort for staff during the hot months.”
Renton Director of Facilities Jeff Minisci said the planned repairs will enhance the overall visitor experience “by improving the facility’s safety, comfort and efficiency.”
“Replacing outdated equipment and infrastructure will reduce the frequency of closures and maintenance issues, ensuring more consistent access for the community,” Minisci said. “The upgrades will also create a more welcoming and visually appealing environment, encouraging higher attendance and increased community engagement. Improved mechanical systems will result in better air and water quality, contributing to a healthier atmosphere for both visitors and staff. Additionally, the modernized concessions and enhanced seating areas will provide more opportunities for social interaction and relaxation.”
DM Pacific was selected as the lowest bidder at $1,410,240 excluding taxes. The city has $1,957,469 budgeted for the project.
According to the city, the Henry Moses Aquatic Center, 1719 Maple Valley Hwy., was built in 2003 and needs several repairs and updates. A 2022 engineering review of the perimeter pool tile and liner found that failure would result in the closure of the pool.
All work on the aquatic center is expected to be completed by June 30, 2025.
