Premier Meat Pies has opened its downtown Renton location as the community is eager to try their warm and flaky pastry confections.
The restaurant, located on 919 S. 3rd St., specializes in savory meat pies, many of which are inspired by classics from the United Kingdom.
Some of the classics include: Shepherd’s Pie – filled with ground beef, onion, peas, carrot, and topped with fluffy mashed potatoes before being baked, Guinness Irish Stew Pie – filled with beef marinated in Guinness beer and stewed with potatoes, carrots, onion, and savory beef gravy, and Classic Scottish Pie – filled with ground beef, oats, and traditional seasoning.
Pies can also be ordered with toppings such as extra mashed potatoes and gravy as well as other savory options.
I opted to try a British classic; the sausage roll – a pork and beef sausage rolled in pastry dough and baked until golden brown. It was deliciously flaky with fluffy and chewy layers of dough as well. The sausage was meaty and tender and the server recommended some German stone-ground mustard to go with it which gave a nice acidic and pungent kick.
I also tried a steak and cheese pastie, a pastry filled with tender bits of steak, with cheese, onions and poblano peppers as well. Its flavors resembled a Philly cheesesteak, and the crispy flaky pocket made the perfect vessel.
Although I did not try any, Premier Meat Pies also had sweet pastries such as Apple Peach Cobbler Pie, Chocolate Banana Bread Pudding Pie, and Cherry Berry Pie.
With a full bar and cozy seating area, customers can order pastries to go or to eat there and watch their favorite soccer teams play.
