The King County results report originally scheduled for 4:30 p.m. were  delayed for two hours, until about 6:30 p.m., when the counted added about 50,000 ballots to the general election tally.

The delay in results reporting was due to problems with the ballot scanning system and the record high volumes of ballots being processed, according to the county Elections Division. The equipment vendor was on site to assist and the problem was resolved. Ballot processing is expected to resume as usual Thursday.

While ballots may still be arriving with valid postmarks, King County Elections estimates that it has about 985,000 ballots now on hand. This represents about an 84 percent turnout in the general election to date.

More than 132,000 ballots were returned to ballot drop boxes on Monday and Tuesday.

Of ballots received to date, 556,083 were counted and reported last night.

Ballot processing will continue until all ballots are counted and the election is certified on Nov. 27. Results will continue to be updated most weekdays at 4:30 p.m. unless notified otherwise.
