The REACH Center of Hope celebrated its first anniversary on Monday with a special ceremony honoring the volunteers that made it possible and highlighting the work they’ve done.

Accoridng to Director Dr. Linda Smith, the center, which until earlier this year was 100 percent volunteer-staffed, in its first year served more than 905 residents, provided more than 2,112 meals, 549 showers, 789 bus tickets and helped move 13 families from homelessness into housing.

The center, located in the old jail at City Hall, is a day center and night shelter for homeless women and children including boys over 12.  At night, the families are housed at various churches in the area that are part of the Renton Ecumenical Assoication of Churches.

A handful of families that were helped by the center were on hand to show their support and several volunteers were honored for their contributions.

“We believe we’re making a difference and we believe we will continue to make a difference,” Smith said.
