A human jaw bone was uncovered Tuesday at a residential construction site at 2211 Edmonds Ave. N.E., according to the Renton Police Department.
The King County Medical Examiner determined the jaw bone belonged to an adult. It is believed that the bone had been buried at the site for an extended period of time, according to Penny Bartley, a police spokeswoman.
Police investigators were at the site late this week to excavate the site in an effort to uncover any additional remains and to identify of the individual, Bartley said.
Cause of death was still undetermined mid-week and it was unknown whether the death was the result of a criminal act.
Police are hoping the public can provide clues to assist in determining the identity, Bartley said. The property was purchased from a private trust a year ago and it is believed to have been vacant for some time prior to purchase, she said.
The original home on the site was demolished to allow for construction of new homes.
Anyone with information regarding the property, or missing persons, is asked to contact Renton Police at 425-430-7500.
