Renton church calling on prayer warriors to protest strip club

The Renton City Council placed a six-month ban on new adult-entertainment uses after Club SinRock, Renton's first totally nude strip club, lit its sign earlier this month.

A Highlands church is hoping to pack City Hall Monday at a hearing on public adult entertainment.

The Renton City Council placed a six-month ban on new adult-entertainment uses after Club SinRock, Renton’s first totally nude strip club, lit its sign earlier this month.

In a widely distributed flier, Celebration Church called for urgent prayer on the issue.

“Please gather your pastors, prayer teams, neighbors, family and friends to come down and stand up against this ‘cancer’ coming to our city,” according to the flier.

The moratorium won’t affect the club’s existence, but it will keep future businesses from popping up in Renton, while the council can review the 25-year-old ordinance.

“Club SinRock has raised some questions about our existing code,” said Alex Pietsch, administrator of Department of Community and Economic Development. “In the meantime no other businesses could locate while we do this evaluation.”

But Club SinRock is in. If the city rezones the land, it could continue to operate as legal non-conforming use.

However, it won’t be without protest.

If the council chambers fill up Monday, the group plans to peacefully gather around City Hall for a prayer walk.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. Monday, March 22, on the seventh floor of City Hall.

The public hearing is a requirement for the already approved moratorium.

Celebration Church wasn’t immediately available for comment.
