The Renton Kiwanis Clothes Bank is experiencing a shortage of men’s clothes.

Its inventory for men never really is high, but the last couple of months there has been a definite shortage, said Sandra Williams, clothing bank manager.

“I think there’s a shortage because men don’t give away their stuff, women do,” Williams said, chuckling. “Men hold on to it for a long time.”

She also said that the change in seasons could have something to do with their low donations. Men who frequent the shop, who are often homeless, are looking for warm weather clothes and interview attire, which the clothes bank doesn’t have a lot of currently.

The clothes bank is in particular need of pants, underwear and socks for men, especially large men’s clothes. Staff is looking for men’s sizes 32 to 40 in pants.

“We like to dress them,” Williams said. “That’s one of our wish lists’ that we get more men’s underwear, socks and pants.”

The clothing bank accepts clean, wearable clothing at the store from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday. It is located at the Renton Area Multi-Service Center, at 1025 South 3rd St., Renton.
