Dr. Jack Chen, who practiced dentistry in Renton since 2005, was killed April 8 on Mercer Island at the construction site of his new home.
Dr. Chen, 40, had stopped by the house on Southeast 39th Street to check on construction progress, according to the Mercer Island Police Department.
Workers were attempting to raise a wall but were unable to get the wall in place and felt it slip.
The workers abandoned their efforts, backing away quickly while the wall fell to the ground. Chen, who had apparently jumped in to assist, was crushed when the wall fell on him, according to police.
Workers on site began CPR and continued until police and fire arrived and took over the process. Chen was transported to Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, where he was pronounced dead.
According to the website for his dentistry practice in Renton, Dr. Chen graduated from the University of Southern California School of Dentistry (Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC) in 1999. He then completed a Master in Business Administration (MBA) at the University of Washington in 2002.
He served patients at Impressions Dentistry, 1717 N.E. 44th St., Renton, since 2005.
His dental practice was voted “Best of Renton” several times in the Renton Reporter contest.
Dr. Chen enjoyed spending time with his wife Angie and their two sons.
Mercer Island detectives are investigating the accident and the Washington state Department of Labor and Industries was notified.
Services were pending mid-week.
