A two-vehicle collision involving a Renton resident in Kent on Oct. 14 at approximately 2:52 a.m. resulted in the hospitalization of a 36-year-old Tacoma man.

Police charged a 48-year-old Renton man with vehicular assault in the incident.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the 48-year-old man struck the 36-year-old man’s vehicle, sitting on the right shoulder of southbound State Route 167, after leaving the roadway. Both vehicles arrived to a stop in a ditch north of South 212th Street, with the 36-year-old man’s vehicle turned upside down.

The collision resulted in 1 hour and 49 minutes of roadway blockages.

First responders transported the 36-year-old to Valley Medical Center for injuries suffered in the collision, according to the state patrol. It’s unknown whether the 36-year-old was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The accident left the 48-year-old uninjured, according to the state patrol.

According to the state patrol, the collision involved drugs or alcohol, with the WSP attributing the cause of the accident to driving under the influence.
