A Renton girl is recovering today after she was hit in the face by a bullet while her mother was driving her home from a concert in Kent late Saturday night.
Fifteen-year-old Olivia Douglas was riding in the passenger seat of the family car northbound on State Route 167 just after midnight Sunday when a bullet pierced the windshield and hit her in the face, according to the Renton Police Department.
Her great uncle, Steve Densmore, said the shooting happened about 10 or 15 minutes after they had left a Christian music concert at a church.
Olivia was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment for a large wound to her cheek.
Renton Police had stopped her mother’s car at about 12:20 a.m. after it was driving the wrong way onto South Third Street, a one-way street in Renton, according to the police news release. She had taken the wrong exit from the freeway.
The mother told police she had been driving north on State Route 167 near South 180th Street when she heard two or three “pops” and saw something hit her vehicle.
She then noticed a hole in the windshield and Douglas yelled that she was bleeding.
Douglas was treated at the scene and then transported to Harborview Medical Center for futher treatment. She was released and is now recovering at home.
It was originally thought a rock came through the windshield, but police determined it was a bullet. Police discovered that an additional bullet struck the front of the vehicle.
Police conducted a search of SR 167, and no suspects or evidence were located.
