A shy twin girl competing in a cutthroat beauty pageant. That isn’t Casi Goodman. But that’s who the 12-year-old Renton girl will be during the three productions of “Beauty Idol,” on July 24-26 in Charlotte Martin Theatre at Seattle Children’s Theatre.

Goodman is one of about 100 young actors selected for a role in the seven plays in this year’s Seattle Children’s Theatre’s Summer Season Student Productions. About 200 actors auditioned.

This won’t be the first play for Goodman, who starts seventh grade at Eastside Catholic School in Sammamish this fall. She’s played Tiger Lily in “Peter Pan” and Hermia in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.”

But “Beauty Idol” is her first role that required an audition.

Learning the lines of her character Lisa was a challenge. But Goodman enjoys acting.

“I think it’s really fun to experience and be someone who you really don’t get to be in real life,” she says. “I enjoy trying out new things.”

“Beauty Idol” is a comic tale of a beauty pageant in which young contestants are subjected to ruthless judges and beauty-obsessed mothers.

“Beauty Idol” is July 24-26 at 8:15 p.m. in the Charlotte Martin Theatre at Seattle Children’s Theatre, 201 Thomas St., in Seattle Center. Tickets cost $6 or $10 for a double feature with “Cam Jansen.” Discounts for groups of ten or more are also available by calling 206-859-4054. To purchase tickets, call Seattle Children’s Theatre ticket office at 206-441-3322 or 206-443-6938 (TTY), or visit www.sct.org.
