About 280 Renton High School seniors graduated in a very vocal and boisterous ceremony, June 13, at ShoWare Center.

The graduates let their presence be known in a call and response with more than one speaker. “Who’s in the house,” Lilian Vo called out to the graduates.

“Renton’s in the house, you know,” the students chanted in response.

Student speaker Feima Osman spoke to the immigrant students and the special challenges she and they had to overcome to learn English on top of their regular studies in order to graduate.

“Class of 2014 believe in yourself, never give up and always keep fighting,” she said.

Principal Giovanna San Martin gave an inspirational speech, where she told students to “rather than being the best in the world, be the best for the world.”

There were nearly 850 total Renton School District high school students, who graduated this year on June 13. Graduates completed all 22 credits in language arts, mathematics, the sciences, social studies, career and technical education and electives. In addition, students passed their classroom- and school-based tests, and state tests. They also completed and presented a multi-year culminating project and plan for beyond high school.
