There is still time left to sign up for King County Metro’s “Renton In Motion” program.
Don’t miss out getting information on different transportation options – plus an ORCA card good for two weeks’ unlimited bus and light rail travel. Other perks can include a pedometer to track your walking distance and entry into weekly drawing for gift certificates from local businesses.
So far 450 people have signed up with King County Metro’s Renton In Motion program, which runs until Oct. 20.
“I got really excited when given the opportunity to get involved with ‘Renton In Motion'” Enza Shaw, Community Relations Captain at Lowe’s Home Improvement in the Renton Landing, said in a press release. “As a Lowe’s 2420 employee I can see how this program will impact the people that I work with both financially and physically. But I have to tell you our young people are my heartbeat. I want them to be able to use the bus system to explore and reach out in our community. I see jobs, saved money, better health, joy and excitement as we present our bus system to those who will use it to extend themselves and grow as they explore their surroundings.” Lowe’s 2420 donated a $250 gift card to Renton In Motion which will be awarded to the grand prize winner of the Transportation Options Challenge.
Jesus Carbajal credits the program, which he joined in mid-August, for a personal commute milestone.
“I live up Benson Road – which is a long, tall hill. I’ve named it the demotivator and it has been the main reason I haven’t considered regular bike commuting realistic,” he said. “‘Renton In Motion’ inspired me to go for it and I rode up it without having a heart attack. I’m pretty proud of myself and I’m glad to have had the motivation of this challenge or else I probably wouldn’t have tried until next year! I haven’t had to put gas in my car in two weeks! Those are big savings to me. I hope to continue taking on the hill, hopefully the upcoming cool weather will help!”
“Recently I picked up cycling for fitness reasons and to participate in the Seattle to Portland Classic as well as the Ride from Seattle to Vancouver and Party” said program participant Wallace Kwan. “As I did more training rides outside of work and on my free time, I decided that bicycling to work is actually a great travel option. My first commute to work was very pleasant as I saw many people cycle to work and are very friendly. This helps me reduce my gas consumption with driving and keeps me physically fit as well. A great healthy alternative I must say.”
