The gap between votes for the Renton library annexation continues to shrink with only an 87-vote difference from Thursday’s count.
Votes opposed to the King County Library System annexation continue to gain ground, Thursday by 91 votes.
There could be an automatic recount if the difference between “yes” and “no” votes is too small. The percentage gap must be less than 0.5 percent and under 2,000 votes.
About 50.4 percent of voters, 6,096, approved the annexation, while 49.6 percent, 6,009, opposed it.
About 30 percent of Renton’s ballots were counted as of Thursday.
King County predicted a 35 percent voter turnout for the county. County voters exceeded that prediction Thursday with 36 percent ballots received.
“Ballots have been arriving earlier and in greater quantities than we expected,” said elections superintendent Evelyn Arnold.
The count will continue to be updated daily until it’s certified Feb. 24.
