Renton man injured in Monday accident on SR169

A 78-year-old Renton man was transported to Harborview Medical Center on Monday after a two-car accident on the Maple Valley Highway.

A 78-year-old Renton man was transported to Harborview Medical Center on Monday after a two-car accident on the Maple Valley Highway.

According to police reports, Neil W. Slater of Renton was headed northbound on state Route 169 at around 12:30 p.m. Monday and ran a red light at Cedar Grove Road as a dump truck was making a left turn on green.

Slater’s vehicle struck the right rear axle of the truck, totaling his car.

Police believe Slater was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time.

The driver of the dump truck was not injured.

The accident is under investigation and charges are pending.
