A Renton man was killed in a single-vehicle car crash that led to a brush fire on State Route 167 in Auburn on Sunday, Aug. 28, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Washington State Patrol troopers responded to a brush fire on SR 167 just north of 37th Street Northwest in Auburn around 3:40 p.m. Aug. 28. Firefighters arrived on the scene and determined the cause of the fire to be a single-vehicle crash.

A report by the Washington State Patrol said it is believed the driver, identified as Demarcus T. Grier, a 35-year-old Renton man, was driving his 2009 BMW X5 at a high rate of speed and lost control of his vehicle. After the driver lost control of the car, it went off State Route 167 to the right and flipped over several times before coming to rest in a ditch.

The driver was the only occupant of the BMW and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. According to the Washington State Patrol, the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.
