Renton police have arrested a 37-year-old man suspected of shooting another 37-year-old man multiple times at a gas station near the downtown Fred Meyer on July 26.
According to a news release from the Renton Police Department, officers identified the suspect using surveillance footage, with Renton Police Department SWAT officers tracking down the suspect to a North Seattle motel and arresting him without incident Aug. 8.
The victim, a 37-year-old Seattle man, suffered non life-threatening injuries from the shooting.
Shooting details
Officers were dispatched at approximately 1:54 p.m. July 26 to reports of a shooting in the area of Fred Meyer at 365 Renton Center Way Southwest with one potential victim shot.
According to the department, the victim sat parked at the gas pumps as the suspect exited his vehicle and the suspect’s passenger walked to a bus stop in the area. The suspect fired two shots, striking the victim. The suspect picked up his passenger from the bus stop, and fled the scene southbound on Rainier Avenue.
According to the department, officers arrived and found both the suspect’s and victim’s vehicle left prior to police arrival, with the victim heading to Valley Medical Center.
A sergeant arrived at Valley Medical Center and saw a vehicle with blood in the interior and visible bullet damage parked outside the emergency department, according to the news release.
Valley Medical Center staff called 911 to report a gunshot victim who walked into the hospital, and officers determined the man to be the victim of the shooting.
With the victim’s vehicle parked in front of the emergency department of Valley Medical Center, additional officers and detectives arrived to further examine the vehicle, observing blood on the front seat, center console, and interior of the vehicle.
Police transported the victim’s vehicle to the Renton Police Department evidence garage. A case detective led further investigation of the incident.
The Renton police have booked the suspect, identified as having a Tacoma address, into the King County Jail. They will refer the case to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for further review of charges, according to the news release.
