Jon Schuldt, Chief of the Renton Police Department, announced promotions and presented awards to members of the police department March 20 at the Renton City Council meeting.
Three members of the department have received promotions including Scott Woodward, Steve Morris and Ryan Rutledge.
Woodward will serve as a sergeant on the department’s Patrol Operations division after having served the role on an interim basis since Oct. 1, 2022, according to the department.
Morris received a promotion to commander and will continue to maintain administrative control of Patrol Services after having previously served as a sergeant for Patrol Services.
Rutledge received a promotion to deputy chief after previously serving as a commander, overseeing the department’s administrative services division. Rutledge will oversee support operations in his new role, according to the department.
Chief Schuldt also presented awards for members for saving the life of another person life saving medal or displaying “extreme courage” in a threatening situation that has the potential to cause death or a disabling injury.
“It’s a privilege for me to present these well-deserved honors,” Schuldt said. “The Renton Police Department has always prided itself on service to our community, and the response to the incidents that we’re highlighting this evening are keeping with the highest standards of fulfilling that pledge.”
Officer Matt Mazure received a life saving award for providing emergency medical care to a man suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on March 19, 2022.
Officer Jake Carstensen received a medal of valor for working alongside his team to rescue two hostages and evacuate residents after responding to an armed and barricaded subject shooting at neighboring houses and first responders on Aug. 9, 2021.
Officer Quint Tibeau received a life saving award for providing emergency trauma care to a suspect shot by police on April 13, 2022.
Officer Dave Adam and Christine Paget both received life saving awards for rescuing a subject from a suicide attempt.
Officers Jeanna Christiansen, Elliott Edmunds, Denis Moynihan, Greg Bills, Javier Raygoza, Jake Thielman, and Sergeant Paul Summers all received both medals of valor and life saving awards for responding to active gunfire and evacuating and treating gunshot victims. Officer Joe Wisniewski also received a medal of valor from the incident.
