Renton police are investigating a Kent shooting after Kent police fatally shot a domestic-violence suspect who had climbed atop a water tower July 7.
The man eluded police in his car, before getting into a car crash and fleeing the scene on foot, according to a City of Renton press release.
The 42-year-old suspect climbed up the tower clutching a shiny object that appeared to be a gun, on the 23800 block of 98th Ave. S., according to the release.
He began making suicidal and homicidal threats, saying he was armed and would shoot anyone who tried to stop him, according to the release.
Police swarmed the area, and after two hours of negotiations the man agreed to climb down and surrender.
As the man got to the ground, he reached into his pants pocket where he had concealed what appeared to be a gun.
Police shot the man in defense of themselves and a nearby daycare, which was under lockdown, according to the release.
Wednesday morning, police were tracking the suspect who police say caused serious facial injuries to a woman, according to the release.
The suspect initially fled on foot, but returned at about noon to retrieve his car. Police began to pursue him, but decided to stop because of his high rate of speed and the high volume of traffic, according to the release.
It’s customary in these cases for the involved police officers to be placed on administrative leave while a neighboring police department conducts the investigation.
