The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Renton officially gets under way Jan. 10 as event volunteers and participants gather at the Holiday Inn of Renton for a kickoff rally to launch their fundraising efforts for the year.

The rally will honor cancer survivors and feature local community members who have benefitted from the funds raised at relay. This also will be the first opportunity to register a team for the overnight event June 10-11 at Renton Memorial Stadium.

Last year alone, the Renton event generated nearly $124,000 and attracted more than 800 participants, with plans to surpass these numbers in 2011.

The kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 1 S. Grady Way.
