Renton Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. on May 29 and ends at 10 a.m. on May 30 at Renton Memorial Stadium. This is the 25th anniversary of the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Forty-four teams have registered so far in Renton. Teams with only adult members must be registered by Friday (May 15). Teams with members under the age of 18 had to be registered by Tuesday. The deadline to join an existing team is May 27.
Organizers for Renton’s Relay for Life aim to raise $120,000 during this year’s event. They also will collect food during the walk for the Salvation Army Renton Rotary Food Bank. Cans of food will be used to weigh down the paper luminary bags that will light up the perimeter of the stadium’s track at 9:30 p.m. on May 29. Each bag will contain a votive candle.
Luminary bags and instructions will be handed out at a Renton Relay for Life table near the Trendz Café at Valley Medical Center on May 20. The table will be open from 7:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and 3 p.m.-5 p.m.
The decorated luminary bags, cans of food and American Cancer Society donations can then be returned to any of the bright purple collection points at Valley Medical Center from May 25-27.
