Renton resident calls airport repeatedly to complain about planes

A harassing caller repeatedly tied up the Renton Municipal Airport phone line for up to 15 minutes on May 13, according to the Renton Police Department. The airport manager called police to report the incidents at the airport located at 616 West Perimeter Road. The caller telephoned the airport and yelled profanities and vulgarities into the phone when planes were flying over downtown Renton. The manager explained that the caller then puts his phone on auto-dial, which ties up the line for five to 15 minutes. The calls continue throughout the day every time planes fly over the city.

After an investigation, police caught up with the 57-year-old caller who was harassing airport staff. The man said he suffered from anxiety and wasn’t taking his medication.

Police let the man go with a stern warning, as the airport staff did not want to press charges. They just wanted the calls to stop.
