To celebrate the new year right, it’s Renton tradition to brave the chilly January waters at Gene Coulon Memorial Park Beach, at the Jan. 1 Polar Plunge. Some jump in, while others take a quick stroll in the water before retreating back. After washing away 2019, participants were then treated to hot chocolate and clam chowder from Ivar’s Seafood Restaurant. This year the water was about as cold as 2019, at 42 degrees, but with warmer air temperature at 50 degrees.
