Renton Rotary Club honors three Renton teachers

The Rotary Club of Renton has selected its Teachers of the Month for November.

Holly Helfrich is a special education teacher at Kennydale Elementary School. Helfrich attended University of New York at Buffalo where she earned a bachelor of science in business administration, then Helfrich continued her education at State University of New York where she earned a masters of science in education, learning and behavioral disorders. Before teaching in Renton, she worked as a regional marketing director for an international education program and also taught in Arizona and Vermont. Helfrich has been teaching in Renton for two years.

Chris Burcham is a fifth-grade teacher at Sierra Heights Elementary School. Burcham attended Central Washington University, where she earned a bachelors degree in elementary education then she earned a masters of education in curriculum and instruction from Lesley College. She has also spent several years teaching in Virginia, Washington, D.C., California, Minnesota and Germany. Burcham has been a teacher in Renton for 20 years.

Allison George is a counselor at Renton Academy. George attended the University of Washington where she earned a bachelor of science in zoology and a bachelor of arts in music theory and history. She then earned a masters in psychology mental health counseling from Western Washington University. George also received educational staff associate certification from City University. She is a licensed mental health therapist and has worked in various health centers in western Washington and has been a member of the Renton team for five years.

The teachers are invited to attend a recognition luncheon held at the Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher also receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies or instructional materials.
