Renton Rotary Club Teachers of the Month for April

The Rotary Club of Renton has selected its Teachers of the Month for April.

Sherran Croy is an instructional specialist at Hazelwood Elementary School. Croy attended Central Washington University in Ellensburg, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in vocational family and consumer science. She continued her education at Central to receive a master’s in educational administration. Croy has taught classes from preschool to high school through the Renton School District. She also has experience as an office manager for a health-care company. Croy has been a teacher in Renton for 25 years.

Sharon Taylor is a second-grade teacher at Tiffany Park Elementary School. She attended Western Washington University, where she studied elementary education with an emphasis in social studies. Taylor continued her education at City University to earn a master’s in special education. Before working in Renton, Taylor taught kindergarten in the North Thurston School District and in the Yelm School District. When she started in Renton she worked as a math generalist for one year then became a second-grade teacher.  This is Taylor’s eighth year teaching in Renton.

Derek Smith is a language arts and journalism teacher at Renton High School. Smith attended Western Washington University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in English education. He is working on a master of fine arts in creative nonfiction from Seattle Pacific University. Before joining the Renton team, Smith taught language arts and journalism for five years at Peninsula High School in Gig Harbor. This is Smith’s third year teaching in the Renton School District.

The teachers are invited to attend a recognition luncheon held at the Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher also receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies or instructional materials.
