Renton Rotary Club has selected their Youth of the Month for April.
Michelle Wnek is a senior at Hazen High School. She holds a 3.6 grade point average or GPA. Wnek has been involved in National Honor Society, Key Club as vice president, orchestra, drama, Hazen Happenings as public relations officer, Ignite, cross country and basketball as captain and track and field. She has received varsity letters, the sportsmanship award and Top Newcomer award for basketball, scholar athlete awards and First Place in the science fair. Wnek works part-time at Osh Kosh B’gosh and volunteers with Weed Warriors, Cross Country Running Club and Saint Matthews Community Program. She plans to attend the University of Washington to study politics and international studies. Wnek is interested in becoming an ambassador or diplomat.
Karlie Pfluger is a senior at Lindbergh High School. She holds a 3.5 GPA. Pfluger has been a member of DECA, drama, the varsity swim team, fastpitch, boys swim team manager and serves as senior class vice president. She has received the Masonic Lodge Outstanding Junior Award, Rookie of the Year award, Scholastic Award, and sports letters in swim and fastpitch. Pfluger works part-time at the Lindbergh Pool and Fairwood Golf and Country Club and spends time volunteering with Tree House. She plans to attend a four-year university where she would like to earn a degree in public relations.
Meykia Smith is a senior at Renton High School. She holds a 3.0 GPA. Smith is involved in speech and debate team, currently as captain, FBLA as president, served as sophomore class vice president and ASB vice president. She has received Honor Roll, Most Inspirational and MVP Awards for debate, a letter of recognition for work on culminating portfolios, and Incredible Indian Award for language arts. Smith volunteers with the Skyway Boys & Girls Club, St. Mary’s Food Bank and the Renton Senior Activity Center. She plans to attend Stanford University to earn a degree in psychology while also taking part in Stanford’s debate team and hopes to become a behavior analyst for the government.
