The Renton Rotary Club has selected its Teachers of the Month for April.

• Dawn Abrahamson is an inclusive preschool teacher at Hillcrest Early Childhood Center.

Abrahamson attended Central Washington University where she earned a bachelor’s of arts in early childhood education. Before coming to Renton, she taught Head Start preschool in Kent for two years, then raised her children for several years before joining the Renton team. Dawn has been teaching in Renton for six years.

• Hilary Vargas is fifthgrade teacher at Campbell Hill Elementary School.

Vargas attended the University of New Mexico, in Albuquerque, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English and then a master’s in teaching from the University of Washington. Before becoming a teacher, she worked in a law firm for four years. Vargas has been a teacher in Renton for three years.

• Sandy Cato is a credit recovery/at-risk intervention teacher at Lindbergh High School.

Cato attended Western Washington University where she earned a bachelor’s of arts degree in English, then attended Eastern Washington University and Seattle University, where she earned a master’s in English literary studies and teaching. This is her fifth year teaching in Renton.

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month recognition luncheon held at the Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher is introduced, makes a brief comment about their school and classroom, and receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies, or instructional materials.
