Renton Rotary selected its Youth of the Month for March.
• Katelynn Piazza is a senior at Hazen High School.
She holds a 3.9 GPA. Piazza has been involved in National Honor Society, Earth Corps, Hazen Band and girls swim team. She has received Academic Super-Star Award, Hazen Achievement Award, scholar athlete award, “Most Motivational” Award, and a varsity letter in swim. Piazza volunteers with the Seattle Human Society and Purrfect Pals. She plans to attend Washington State University to study animal related sciences, such as zoology, and hopes to work as a veterinarian or work in marine biology or other wildlife study.
• Teresa Nguyen is a senior at Lindbergh High School.
She holds a 3.7 GPA Nguyen has been a member of Key Club, SkillsUSA, as president, environmental club, FBLA, Ignite Mentoring, Eagle Crew and tennis. She has received outstanding junior award, AP Scholar Award, department student of the month, bronze award at SkillsUSA, and a junior varsity tennis letter. Nguyen volunteers with Kiwanis and local animal shelters. She plans to attend Washington State University to study pre-veterinary medicine, and one day become a veterinarian and open her own clinic.
• Mary Binongcal is a senior at Renton High School.
She holds a 3.8 G.P.A. Binongcal is involved with Key Club, National Society of High School Scholars, National Honors Society, Culture Club, Ignite Mentoring, and orchestra board. She has received honor roll, perfect attendance, a department award, Mason’s Outstanding Junior Award, and was an Evergreen girls state attendee. Binongcal volunteers at Highline Hospital. She plans to attend a four-year university, then continue her education to earn a master’s degree in the medical field. Binongcal would like to become a pediatrician.
Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade-point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community. The students and their parents are honored guests at a regular Rotary luncheon.
