The Rotary Club of Renton has recognized three high school students for January in its Youth of the Month program.
• Evan Tomchick is a senior at Hazen High School.
He holds a 3.6 GPA. He is or has been a member of Earthcore, Thinkers Club, Diversity Club, cross country, swim and dive and Hazen Drama. He was also ASB historian.
Awards he has received include Smiling Face Best Short Production, Student of the Month in French, scholar athlete and varsity letters.
Tomchick works part-time as a shift manager and server at Cold Stone Creamery and volunteers with Bridging the Past and Future and Rebuilding Together.
Tomchick plans to attend a four-year university and pursue a career in writing. He also plans to travel.
• Ti Nguyen is a senior at Lindbergh High School.
She holds a 3.9 GPA. She is a member of Key Club, Environmental Club, National Honor Society, Tutoring/Homework Club and International Club. She was also vice president of organization on Prom Committee and president of Medical Explorers.
She has received classroom Student of the Month awards and Certificate of Appreciation.
She works part-time at Hallmark and volunteers with an after-school homework club.
Nguyen plans to attend the University of Washington and pursue a career in dentistry. She also plans to own her own business and become a stylist.
• Charissa Gunn is a senior at Renton High School.
She holds a 3.7 GPA. She is a member of Key Club Leadership Committees. She plays softball and participates in gymnastics and has received letters in both sports.
She works part-time as a nanny and volunteers with Relay 4 Life and Special Olympics.
Gunn plans to attend college and earn a degree in photography or journalism and would like to minor in dance. She wants to work for or start a travel magazine.
A selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade-point average and participate in school activities and volunteer work. The students and their parents are guests at a Rotary luncheon.
