Renton Schools Foundation — formerly Friends of Renton Schools — raised over $142,000 at their ninth annual breakfast fundraiser Monday.
The nonprofit has been providing supplemental funding for the Renton School District since 2009. Programs funded by the foundation include summer school robotics programs, STEM-based program, music, literacy, and direct grants to teachers for classroom materials and special programs.
This year’s keynote speaker was Quinton Morris, a Renton High School graduate, educator, entrepreneur, and violin performer.
Morris spoke about the opportunities provided to him and others by Renton-area business leaders and community members, to support in-school programs, after-school programs and opportunities for higher learning after graduation. He thanked the crowd for their past work to support Renton children and families, and invited them to continue that support through the Renton Schools Foundation efforts.
