Renton seeks input for downtown space inspired by World Cup

From 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 27, residents are encouraged to give input on the World Cup Legacy Square project.

With the World Cup coming to Seattle in 2026, the City of Renton is preparing now, eager to know what community members and residents want when it comes to developing the World Cup Legacy Square.

Described as a “visionary project that aims to establish a dynamic and inclusive hub in Renton’s downtown area,” the city invites Renton residents to attend a Square Talk event on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the gravel lot at South Third Street and Logan Avenue South, to give input on what the Legacy Square could be and on its location.

Led by the city’s Community and Economic Development Department, the idea behind Legacy Square is to “leverage the energy and passion of the world’s largest sporting event, World Cup 2026, coming to Seattle for its initial launch.”

According to the City of Renton’s weekly newsletter, the Legacy Sqaure will “continue to be a vibrant space for future sports viewing, the arts, play opportunities, event space, and more.”

The Square Talk event will take place during the Aug. 27 Renton Farmers Market from 4 – 7 p.m.
