Soroptimist International of Renton will launch its year with a “New Member Mixer” 5:30 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept 9, at the Blossom Asian Bistro, 305 Burnett Ave. S., Renton.
Interested women are invited to share the fun and hors d’oeuvres and learn what Soroptimists are all about – from members whose energies support community projects and volunteer opportunities with a focus on improving lives of women and girls.
“Please be our guest – get to know us,” says Becky Nickels, new Renton club president. The next step, according to the club, is to get involved in programs nationally and worldwide that are supported by Soroptimist International.
There is no charge for the membership mixer, but those attending are asked to RSVP to Judy Craig, 425-255-3210. There will be a no-host bar.
The event will showcase the array of new and continuing programs supported by Renton Soroptimists. New to the action this year were furnishing an apartment at Vision House to help struggling parents and children stabilize their lives, supporting a national Wheelchair Basketball tournament sponsored by Renton Kiwanis, and making a substantial donation to help expand vital after-school programs for youth at Renton Salvation Army. These were added to more than a dozen continuing programs and scholarships supported by the Renton club.
Renton Soroptimists meet twice a month to plan targeted community projects, to relax and enjoy mutual support and to expand knowledge in engaging educational programs.
