The City of Renton’s Springbrook Trail Boardwalk project was recently awarded the Spotlight Award from the Washington Recreation and Park Association. This award recognizes excellence in the design and development of parks and recreation facilities.
The Springbrook Trail Boardwalk project is located in the largest wetland mitigation site in the central Puget Sound area. The Springbrook Creek Wetland Mitigation Bank and Trail creates a corridor for red-tailed hawks, great blue herons and other birds, and other wildlife such as coyotes and fish, while giving the community new opportunities to observe plants and wildlife in Renton.
The project is a partnership between the Washington State Department of Transportation and the City of Renton. Construction of the boardwalk and the Springbrook Trail were funded by the City of Renton.
“The Springbrook Trail is an excellent example of the city’s long-term commitment to providing recreation and educational opportunities and completing an interconnected system of trails,” said Mayor Denis Law.
The completed Springbrook Trail Boardwalk Project is another step closer to connecting to King County’s Interurban Trail and the Green River Trail. The boardwalk is ADA-accessible and includes litter receptacles and two seating and viewing areas.
The trail is part of a larger environmental corridor in Renton connecting the 93-acre Black Riparian Forest to the Springbrook Valley Wetlands.
