Two severe accidents over the weekend in Renton destroyed vehicles and left passengers injured or in critical condition.
Just before 7 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 a five-vehicle collision on Interstate 405 (I-405) North between Renton and Tukwila halted evening traffic and caused an involved semi truck to catch fire.
Renton firefighters of local union 864 posted on Twitter that a lack of water supply made it hard to extinguish. Both Renton and Tukwila firetrucks responded to the scene, that closed all but one lane of traffic, causing backup for miles. Firetrucks also parked below the freeway to offer water to the first responders above.

The fire extended from the truck to the trailer, according to fire officials. Three people involved were not injured and one patient was treated with minor injuries. The fire was contained around 8 p.m. but lane closures continued later into the night.
Then on Sunday, Feb. 9, Renton Police Department responded to a rollover collision on the 3100 block of Talbot Road South.
The two passengers were transported to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition and the vehicle, a 2016 Dodge Challenger was nearly destroyed. No other updates were available at the time this article was written.
