Renton High School won eight awards during the state journalism convention sponsored by the Washington Journalism Education Association March 14.

ARROW, the monthly newsmagazine, earned three individual awards and the Illahee, the yearbook, earned five in a variety of categories:

Yearbook Feature Writing, Honorable Mention: Samantha Williams;

Newspaper Feature Writing, Honorable Mention: Linet Madeja;

Editorial Cartooning, Excellent: Raychelle Duazo;

Advertising Design, Honorable Mention: Sinear Sadang;

Newspaper Photo Editing / Caption Writing, Honorable Mention: Robin Reilly;

Newspaper Sports Photography, Honorable Mention: Charissa Gunn ;

Honorable Mention, Yearbook Sports Photography: Johnny Huynh ;

Visual Communications / Infographics, Excellent: Spencer Echon.

More than 400 student journalists attended the convention, and 282 competed.
