Casey Chandler is a senior at Hazen High School. She holds a 3.9 grade point average (GPA).
Chandler has been involved in Key Club, Ignite, swim team, as captain and gymnastics, as captain. She has received a 4.0 plaque from McKnight Middle School, Reflections program certificates/awards, varsity sports letters, and Women in Technology “Science” recognition. Chandler volunteers with Renton First United Methodist Church, U.S. Open Swimming, Hazen Boosters, and various homeless shelters. She plans to attend a four-year university in Washington and hopes to work in the field of science, particularly bio-engineering.
Aleyna Yamaguchi is a senior at Lindbergh High School. She holds a 4.0 GPA.
Yamaguchi has been a member of Key Club, Korean Club, as president; Northwest Asian Weekly Youth Board, as secretary; and varsity gymnastics, as captain. She has also received Japanese National Honor Society membership, National Honor Society Award of Academic Achievement, varsity letters for gymnastics and the WIAA Distinguished Scholastic Award. Yamaguchi volunteers with Renton Youth Council and the King County Animal Shelter. She plans to attend either the University of Washington or Nagoya University in Japan to become a translator or an interpreter with Major League Baseball. Or, she plans to major in business law and become an agent for foreign baseball players.
Jasmine Rucker is a senior at Renton High School. Jasmine holds a 3.3 GPA.
Rucker is involved with Key Club, the Pacific Science Center, a Mercer Slough Internship, Ignite, Young, Gifted & Black and the Future of the Law Institute. She has received the Junior Education Achievement Award of Renton High School, and Certificate of Completion at Future of the Law Institute. Rucker works part-time at Payless Shoes and volunteers with the Seattle Children’s Theatre. Rucker plans to attend either the University of Washington or Washington State University, then she plans to attend law school. She hopes to become a lawyer and specialize in family law.
Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members reviews applications and interviews students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.
