Renton Police Department is hosting a Red Ribbon week poster contest for third, fourth and fifth graders.
Mayor Denis Law proclaimed this week, from Oct. 23 to 31, to be Red Ribbon week in the city to shed more light on ill effects of drug usage and abuse. National Red Ribbon campaign encourages citizens to demonstrate their commitment to a drug-free lifestyle.
In an effort to keep kids away from drugs, RPD is inviting Renton students to participate in the poster contest.
This year’s theme is “Your future is key, so stay drug free.”
Posters will be judged based on the quality, originality, creativity and neatness of the work. Winning posters will be displayed at the Renton City Hall and will featured in the RPD social media platforms. Winners will be invited to a party hosted by RPD and will receive prizes. All participants will receive a Red Ribbon week ribbon.
Submissions are due Nov. 10. Winners will be notified by Nov. 20.
The contest requires students to create a poster that illustrates their interpretation of a drug-free environment. Posters can range from 8.5 by 11 inches to 11 by 14 inches in size and must include the theme slogan in it. Participants can either create the poster by hand or it can be computer generated. Adults are encouraged to supervise, but are not allowed to take part in the design or production of the work.
Posters can be submitted or mailed to the Renton Police Department, 1055 S Grady Way (attn: Stephanie Hynes). Include a poster entry form with the submission, which can be found at http://bit.ly/RPDpostercontest. Additional information about the contest can be found at http://rentonwa.gov/rrw/.
