RTC president to represent Washington state in D.C.

Renton Technical College’s president has been selected to represent Washington state at the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges.

“It’s a great honor,” said RTC president Steve Hanson. “This invitation is a tribute to the extraordinary efforts of our faculty and staff in meeting the job training and education needs of our community.”

Hanson will be joined by Charlie Earl, the executive director of the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges.

Barack Obama requested Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden, organize the summit to highlight the critical role the colleges play in developing America’s workforce, according to a White House press release.

The Oct. 5 event will combine community college leaders, politicians and students to discuss how the schools can meet the education needs of the nation’s evolving workforce.
