Salvation Army’s “Fill the Truck” campaign at Renton Walmart Saturday

The two organizations are teaming up to help provide new toys and coats to kids for Christmas as part of the 122nd Annual Red Kettle Campaign.

Help Walmart and the Renton Salvation Army “Fill the Truck” this Saturday to give local children in need toys this Christmas.

The two organizations are teaming up to help provide new toys and coats to kids for Christmas as part of the 122nd Annual Red Kettle Campaign.The toy drive will take place at the Walmart store in Renton from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 743 Rainier Ave. S. Shoppers will receive a list of suggested gifts to help fill the truck or collection bin at the store.

“This holiday season, we’re proud to work with Walmart to help the less fortunate in our community,” said Capt. Chris Aird, of the Renton Salvation Army. “With strong support from generous shoppers, we know we can bring smiles to more children this Christmas.”

Walmart has been hosting The Salvation Army’s red kettles and bell ringers this holiday season since Nov. 23 and will continue to Dec. 24. The effort is to collect much-needed funds to support the social service agency at Christmas and year-round.

The funds are used to provide food, clothing, shelter, financial assistance and other services and will stay in Renton.The Walmart Foundation has also made a $1 million donation to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign. It will go to Salvation Army units throughout the country to support feeding programs, including meal programs for youths.
