The Renton School District’s homeschool program is hosting an open house this Thursday, May 30.
The H.O.M.E. Program (Homeschool Opportunities for Merging Education) will host the event from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the program’s Spring Glen School location, 4607 Jones Ave. S. in Renton. Tours will be offered of the school and staff will be available for questions and answers about the H.O.M.E. program.
Also, families who have previously homeschooled or attended private school for at least 90 days will have the opportunity to register for the 2013-14 school year.
H.O.M.E. is a parent partnership program serving kindergarten through 10th-grade students. The program offers enrichment classes for students one or two days per week, covering a wide range of subjects like math, science, writing, current events, drama and ceramics, a district release stated.
The H.O.M.E. program is taught by certified teachers, while the parent learning coach remains on-site to participate in their child’s classroom work. Parents are not required to stay on-site but are encouraged to be involved by the district.
The program also offers high school credit classes for ninth- and 10th-graders, who attend two days per week and complete about five to six hours of homework per week for each class.
