Seahawks working as baristas today for charity

For an hour today, members of the Seattle Seahawks will work as "Guest Baristas" at six Starbucks locations around Puget Sound, including one in Renton, to raise awareness for A Better Seattle.

They may be used to grinding it out on the field, but on Tuesday, members of the Seattle Seahawks will take on a new role: grinding beans.

For an hour today, members of the Seattle Seahawks will work as “Guest Baristas” at six Starbucks locations around Puget Sound, including one in Renton, to raise awareness for A Better Seattle (ABS), an initiative founded by Head Coach Pete Carroll, that funds and supports the deployment of YMCA of Seattle’s Alive & Free professional trained street outreach workers who serve at risk youth in South King County.

This year Starbucks is donating $75,000 to ABS’s job readiness program, which teaches YMCA Alive & Free youth critical job skills through workshops, mentoring and job shadowing programs. Starbucks and its customers have contributed a total of $200,000 to ABS since 2013.

To raise awareness for the work ABS does in the community, Seahawks players and YMCA’s Alive & Free outreach workers will serving customers and fans at the coffee shops.

In Renton, a Seahawks player will be working at the VMAC Starbucks location, 1785 N.E. 44th St., Renton. There will also be players working at shops in Bellevue and four shops in Seattle.
