A man suspected of shooting a victim in the leg last week during a robbery attempt was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Renton with the assistance of the Renton Police Department.

The attempted robbery occurred last week at Renton Avenue South and South Ryan, just outside Renton city limits in Seattle. The male victim was shot once in the knee during an attempted robbery.

According to the Seattle Police Blotter, at about 12:15 p.m., Nov. 12, Seattle’s South Precinct officers responded to a report of a shooting at that location. The suspect tried to steal the victim’s iPhone. A struggle ensued, and the victim was shot once in the knee cap by the suspect. The suspect then fled. Police had a description of the suspect and his vehicle.  Officers immediately searched the surrounding area but did not locate the suspect. Seattle Fire treated the victim and then he was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of his injury, which was not life-threatening.

Robbery detectives had developed information on the suspect after interviews with the victim and witnesses.

On Tuesday, gang detectives followed up and located the suspect at a residence in the city of Renton. He was arrested as he was leaving the house in a car. During the arrest, a handgun was seen underneath the front passenger seat where the suspect was sitting. The car was impounded pending a search warrant.

The 20-year-old suspect was brought back to Seattle where he was interviewed by robbery detectives. Following the interview, he was booked into the King County Jail for the robbery and an assault warrant.

Robbery detectives will continue to follow up on this case.
