Section of Houser Way to close for 120 days

The section of road will close on Jan. 21 and is expected to open again on May 22.

A small portion of Houser Way North will be made impassable later this month because of construction on I-405.

At the Jan. 6 meeting, the Renton City Council approved a resolution to temporarily close Houser Way North between Lake Washington Boulevard North and Lowes Business Access Road for a 120-day period. The section of road will close on Jan. 21 and is expected to open again on May 22.

The closure is due to the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lanes (ETL) project on I-405.The closed section of road runs under North Southport Drive as it connects to I-405.

Councilmember and transportation committee chair Ryan McIrvin spoke to the council on the resolution to close the street.

“The report said this is necessary for the WSDOT widening project and it’s a very, very small portion of Houser Way right behind Lowes near Coulon Park,” McIrvin said at the Jan. 6 meeting. “The goal is to get this done by May 22 so there will be less impact on the park as boating season kind of kicks in.”
