The following information was compiled from Renton Police Department case reports.

A shoplift suspect at Fry’s Electronics in north Renton warned Renton officers June 3 before they searched it that there were needles and drug paraphernalia in his backpack.

Inside the backpack were syringes, a crack pipe, small baggies and a tourniquet. The 25-year-old Colorado man told officers the white crystalline substance was lime he used to manufacture crack cocaine.

The substance was field-tested; it wasn’t a controlled substance.

The man was stopped outside Fry’s after he walked out without paying for speakers, keyboards and headphones, valued at about $620, concealed in the backpack, on him and in a tote bag.

The tote bag has a pouch made of tinfoil and duct tape he hopes will defeat the store’s security sensors attached to high-value items.

An officer asked whether that works and he answered, “All the time.” He used the small pouch instead of a backpack, which attracts too much attention.

The man was booked into the SCORE regional jail for investigation of third-degree theft.

Handgun stolen from car

A .40 caliber Sig Sauer handgun was stolen May 31 from the trunk of a car parked in a driveway on Northeast 35th Place.

The owner had left the BMW locked but with the windows slightly down. When he returned, the car was unlocked and contents from the glove box strewn about.

He discovered the handgun was missing when he opened the trunk. He had recently moved into the residence.

Stolen gun used in suicide

A .38-caliber revolver handgun stolen from a downtown Renton gun shop June 5 was used later that evening by a man to commit suicide.

The man took off running after the shop owner put the gun on the counter at about 5 p.m. He was tracked by a Renton K9 unit but wasn’t located.

At about 7 p.m. officers were dispatched to a shooting on Wells Avenue South in Renton. A man was found dead with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. A.38-caliber handgun was on the ground.

The serial number matched the number of the stolen handgun.

Student assaulted

A 17-year-old student at an Issaquah School District alternative school reported to Renton Police she was assaulted June 3 by two students while walking to a bus stop.

The student told Renton officers the two students attend Liberty High School, which is in Renton but is an Issaquah school. She said the assault stopped when the bus arrived to take her to the alternative school.

She indicated to officers that the three had an altercation a few days before.

Snowboard stolen

A high-end snowboard valued at $800 was stolen from an apartment but was later found in a pawn shop May 24 near downtown Renton.

The theft was reported by a 25-year-old Renton woman, who told police that boots, bindings and a bag valued at $700 were gone.

She had moved out of the apartment a few weeks ago but her ex-boyfriend still lived there.

A check on LeadsOnline revealed the snowboard gear had been pawned. The officer asked that the shop place a hold on the gear.

A $200 computer was stolen from a car May 27 parked on Northeast Eighth Court after someone threw a rock through a passenger-side window.

Damage to the window was estimated at $250.
