Spring cleaning, graffiti removal is Saturday downtown

The “Downtown Spring Clean-Up/””Graffiti Clean-Up” event will be taking place this coming Saturday, April 4th, from 9 to noon. The Kiwanis Clubs of Renton and Greater Renton and the Downtown Events Committee, with some 35 – 40 volunteers, will be helping clean-up and remove graffiti (and trash) from a number of locations identified around downtown (generally in the area between Shattuck & Main, Second & Fourth, plus the Liberty Park area). To date the city has signed permission slips to clean-up graffiti for 12 properties, and are working with several more property owners to clean up their properties on Saturday.

Many of the cleaning supplies we will be using during this graffiti clean-up have been donated by McLendon’s, Lowe’s, Target and Parker Paints. Metro Transit is also participating prior to the event and will be out cleaning up their trash bins, repainting curbs where necessary and removing stickers from their bus stop signs.

The Event will be kicking off at 9 a.m. at the Piazza when we will be reviewing safety rules, passing out clean-up supplies along with maps (showing locations of graffiti approved for removal) to groups of six/seven, who then will span out and start sprucing up the City. Once everyone is done, we will be passing out Thank You Certificates to the participants.

The sun is also supposed to make an appearance on Saturday, so hopefully when all is done, downtown will be sparkling!
