The ramp from state Route 167 to Interstate 405 may have opened again in time for this morning’s commute, but crews will be re-closing the ramp to complete the work begun over the weekend.
To complete the replacement of a 30-year-old drainage pipe, the ramp will close at 9 p.m. tonight, Monday and remain closed through 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Traffic will be detoured to southbound I-405 to Exit 1 and then back to northbound I-405.
This work is part of the I-405/SR 167 Major Drainage Repair project. This past weekend, crews dug 12 feet under the roadway and decommissioned the failing metal drainage pipe.
All but 25 feet of the new, heavy-duty rubberized plastic pipe was installed. Tonight’s work includes attaching the last section of pipe, paving and striping the ramp.
According to the press release from WSDOT, well maintained underground utility pipes prevent flooding on our ramps and highways.
Drivers can stay on time by adding an extra five or ten minutes to their trip and checking the Seattle traffic page for backups. The What’s Happening Now page, Twitter feed and mobile app also are reliable traffic-busting tools.
