The Washington state House of Representatives is recognizing a former Renton superintendent for his work as an educator.

Rep. Steve Bergquist shared a house resolution at the April 2 City Council meeting that honored former Renton School District Superintendent Gary Kohlwes.

Kohlwes served as superintendent for Renton School District from 1974 to 1997. He was the executive director and trustee of First Financial Northwest Foundation. He is also a member of the Renton Rotary Club, where he served as president previously.

“Kohlwes empowered and encouraged countless teachers, students, and administrators that contributed to the strength and success of the Renton School District…. Kohlwes has dedicated an immeasurable amount of personal time to his community and has shown his devotion through acts of service and valuable contributions,” read the proclamation.
